I have always loved New Year’s Eve. It’s a time of reflection for me and a time to set my intentions for the new year.

The last several years have been tough though because it was always a reminder of the New Year’s Eve my ex-husband walked out on me and our 4-year old daughter.

At 2:00 in the afternoon.

Needless to say, I was in deep despair that New Year’s Eve and the thought of setting powerful intentions to have a great year was not even on my radar.

I stood in the toy store downtown where I live while my daughter ran around looking at all the new toys, feeling like my life was imploding as he was packing up at home.

The feeling I remember the most, though, was that I knew I needed to surrender my life over to a Higher Power at that very moment.

Completely.

No matter what thoughts I had about what I “wanted” my life to be had to be surrendered because at that moment I knew I had no control over what was happening.

The only thing I could do was allow it to unfold and pray for the highest good for all of us.

That is truly how I got through the night.

I prayed and felt a powerful sensation of peace envelope me which stayed with me until I decided to take back control of what I thought I wanted the next day (a story for another time).

With this New Year’s Eve approaching, I knew I wanted to try something different.

Something that would change my overall perspective of what it means to set powerful intentions and then achieve them.

Because I know in year’s past, I would set New Year’s resolutions and I would not make it out of January without “failing.”

I did some research and found 2 rituals that I had never heard of before.

The third one is mine that I thought I would try this year.

I thought I would share so we could do them together and ring in the New Year in a powerful way.

Energy is the key here. Everything is energy.

So when we set our intentions with curiosity and wonder, our energy will expand allowing more room for all that we desire to enter our lives.

Here are 3 rituals to do to say good-bye to the old and welcome in the new.

STAY FOCUSED ON ONLY THE FIRST 12 DAYS OF THE NEW YEAR

Thinking of the whole 12 months looming ahead is overwhelming. The Spiritual teacher, Omraam Mikhael Aivanhhov teaches that the first 12 days of January represent each of the months ahead. January 1st represents the month of January, January 2nd represents the month of February, and so on.

Each day focus on how you desire your life to be and each day take one action on what you need to do to have it show up in your life.

Here’s a little secret. Act as if you already are who you want to be and that you are already living the life you dream about. You are opening up to all the gifts waiting for you.

Focusing on this for 12 days, taking one day at a time, is much more doable than thinking so far ahead. Your intentions and your actions will set the tone for the whole year ahead.

THROW MONEY INTO YOUR HOME

I just saw this one pop up several times. The ritual asks you to take a handful of coins and upon returning to your home for the first time after the New Year, throw the money into your home as you say your intentions and desires for the New Year. Bless the coins with gratitude for all that is on the way to you.

Leave the coins there for 48 hours and then give them away.

If you are staying home, go outside after midnight and re-enter your home.

It’s worth a try.

CHOOSE ONLY ONE THING TO FOCUS ON EACH MONTH

I love thinking about the things I truly want to have happen in my life. I usually write down a list of intentions, but this year, I decided that I’m going to set a foundation of how I want to FEEL.

Take a few moments today, before midnight, and write out a story of your life for the next year. How do you want to FEEL? Who do you want to be? How do you want to show up for yourself each day?

After you write your story, choose one thing you can focus on to change for just the month of January.

For instance, if your number one pain point is your weight, then just for the month of January, focus on only those things you need to do to help you lose weight and get in shape.

As February approaches, think of something else you want to change and add it to your intentions.

This is a great way to make making change more manageable. And each month you will be building upon the foundation you created the previous month. It takes anywhere from 21-30 days to change a habit so this is a great way to change those habits you’ve been wanting to change for years.

Don’t forget to add in one special pleasure for yourself each month and sprinkle each day with little things you can do for yourself.

I would love to hear of any rituals you have. Please share in the comments below.

Wishing you so much love and many blessings for the coming year,
