I just read a great story by Cheryl Richardson on her Facebook page. She wrote about why we may find that affirmations don’t always work. She started the story by stating she at times feels like a fraud because she doesn’t always do what she teaches others to do.
This was just what I needed to hear today. I’ve been feeling a bit off balance lately and not incorporating the positive choices that make me feel good. I had been staying up later than usual, not eating optimally, not exercising and consequently not feeling great.
Then I began to question how am I supposed to help and serve others if I’m not taking great care of myself. What I’m learning is twofold. First, we teach what we most need to learn and/or remember. And second, we are all human and we may all go off track once in a while. It’s the gentleness with which we treat ourselves as we work to get back on track that is of the utmost importance. That alone is great self-care. Beating ourselves up and continuing negative self-talk will not help us find our way back. What do you do when you find yourself off your path?
